Fushigi Yuugi

Pay attention all of you Marmalade Boy fans out there! If you liked that series, you will fall in love with Fushigi Yuugi. This is a series with everything; love, comedy and adventure! Two junior high students, Miaka and Yui, find an old book that opens their eyes to an entirely different world from the one they know.

As they read, they find out that once the first page of the book is turned the story will begin and the book will become their reality. When they turn the page, they find themselves in ancient China. The moment they arrive they are attacked by girl traffickers. A man with the mark(or character) of an ogre appears, saves them, and disappears. Yui finds her way home through a transport, but Miaka is left to defend herself in this unknown world. Her new journey; find the man with the mark of an ogre, so he can help her find Yui.

Yui, who is now back home, is the one who will lead us through this adventure and will continue reading until she can finish the book and her friend can come home.

Marmalade Boy

I highly recommend that you give this series a try. This is my favorite series out of all the Japanese Anime. It is like a soap opera. It keeps you on the edge of the seat the whole time. It involves all the problems that teenagers get themselves into.....mostly love. Miki, a very passionate and emotional girl, is in love with two guys in her senior class. Yuu and Ginta. Yuu lives in the same house with Miki. This is because their parents "switched partners". Yuu is not nearly as open with his feelings as Miki, nor anyone else for that matter. He keeps to himself which makes it very hard for Miki to find out alot about him. Ginta is very passionate like Miki. This is probably one of the reasons that they are best friends. Miki had declared her love to Ginta two years ago, but she was turned down. Now, the tables have turned. Ginta has come forth and told Miki that he loves her. She is in a dilemma on who she likes the most. Luckily, she has a best friend she can turn to, Meiko. Miki tells all of her problems to Meiko, a very trustworthy person. The only thing is that Meiko has a hard time trying to share her problems with anyone. She does have a few problems that she probably should tell her friend about. It would take alot of stress off. For one thing, her parents are divorced so they are either drunk, fighting, but most of the time both. If you want to find out more about this series, talk to my dad about how you can get your tape.  (10/20/96)

Sailor Moon

If you are or ever were a high schooler, you can probably relate to the problems that Sailor Moon (Usagi) and her friends go through. Whether about boys, parents, or homework she has been through it all. Oh yeah, don’t forget saving the world. Usagi and her friends are a group of teenage superheroes who battle their archenemy, Queen Beryl. The team is made up of Sailor Mars (Rei), Sailor Mercury (Ami), Sailor Venus (Minako), Sailor Jupiter (Makoto) and, of course, Sailor Moon (Usagi) the leader. She is the leader because she is really a princess of another planet who was separated from her mother the queen, and placed on earth. The problem is she has little memory of any of this. The love interest of Usagi is Tuxedo Mask. He is a mystical and mysterious man who save the sailor scouts whenever they are in danger. No one knows who he is in real life, though. You will have to watch the series to find that out. This is a series that the whole family could watch. It has danger, love, bad guys, battles, friendship, and humor all rolled into one. Just contact my dad and he will get you the series as soon as possible. (11/26/96)

Video Girl Ai

I feel that Video Girl Ai is the most romantic series that my father has introduced to me. Youta, a high-school student, decides to watch a video about a gorgeous woman that he got from a special video store that only certain people can see. Even though his VCR is a little messed up he goes ahead and tries to watch it. Much to Youta’s surprise, this beautiful woman comes out of his TV. After everyone calms down, Youta finds out that she is a video girl. Video girls are meant to comfort men and that is their only purpose. They are not supposed to fall in love with any of the men they are sent to comfort. She introduces herself as Ai, a sixteen year girl who is at his service. Youta feels very strange about this arrangement because he is in love with a girl at his school named Moemi. It’s too bad that Moemi is in love with Takashi (Youta’s best friend) like almost all the girls at his school.

Another thing about video girls is that they can not stay with any man for very long. Too much of a good thing. They have a certain amount of time which is displayed on the VCR. They refer to this frequently in the series. Youta and Ai better use that time wisely. Rolex, Ai’s creator, takes Ai away from Youta when they start to have feelings for each other. Youta must now fight to get her back. How strong is the bond between Youta and Ai? To what lengths will he go to win her back?

Interested? You can contact my father, John Brown, if you would like to get this series. Believe me, It is definitely worth watching.  (6/7/97)
