Call it serendipity or a lucky juxtaposition, but I
found myself in a rare situation with this annual trip to AWA. Just a few
miles north of the convention, Maddox from
The Best Page in the
Universe fame was hitting the southeastern point of his book signing
trip for "The Alphabet of Manliness" one day only
on Saturday.
Although it might impact my coverage of the AWA cosplay contest, there was no
way that I could pass up such a fortunate opportunity. |
Being the meticulous person that he
portrays on his web site, I was pleased to see Maddox start his panel exactly on
the dot at 7:00. He spent the next 30 minutes or so giving us some
background on his book and answering questions. One of the items I found of
interest is the possibility of a follow-up book that would be called
something like the alphabet of femininity from the perspective of a man,
i.e. B is for Baking, etc. I would really like to read a book like that
<grin>. |
OK, now perhaps I shouldn't say this,
but in spite of the tone he sets on his web site, Maddox is a genuinely
likeable guy. He respects
his fans and was generous enough with his time to sign four books for me
(Two friends, my son and myself). A
final manly handshake and I was on my way back to the convention. |
