AFO has some of the best and most
entertaining events of any convention I've attended. First up is Joey
Snackpants' Anime That Doesn't Suck (as opposed to his usual your anime
sucks stance). By Joey's standards, in order for animation to be considered
good, it must have proper animation, proper music for the mood and good
writing. As one example, Joey presented Konya wa Hurricane by Priss and the
Replicants from Bubblegum Crisis. A few other examples included the
Giant Robo introduction, Five Star Stories, Here is Greenwood, Porco Rosso,
Gunbusters and Tuxedo Kamen's entrance in two of the Sailor Moon movies.
As far as I'm concerned, Wheldon Smiley is the king of anime convention
events. First up is his Win, Lose or Draw contest. The goal is to draw a
ticket from the bag and then sketch that subject in less then one minute or
until the audience correctly identifies your drawing.
